Our History
1954
Mr. Gordhandas Jamnadas, the founder of Indian Gum Industries, was traveling by ship, when he met a co-passenger, the head of the Cesalpinia Group, Italy. The Cesalpinia Group was in the business of manufacturing locust bean gum, from locust beans grown in Europe. Prices for locust beans were rising, and they came to a decision to search for other seeds that could be used as thickeners.
Mr. Gordhandas Jamnadas returned to India, and spent close to three years researching over 300 seeds to find a suitable seed to manufacture natural polymers.
The guar plant is identified as the ideal source for natural polymers. Guar, originating from the words "Gau Ahar", meaning food for the cows. It was fed to cattle as it was composed of 68% protein. 28% of the pods were the endosperm, which provided no nutritional value to cattle, but was ideal for the manufacture of Guar Gum, a Natural Polymer.
